Joan Woolwine Bio

Joan is an educator with multiple years of teaching and administrative experience in public, private, and college environments. She focuses on literacy acquisition and Equity at the classroom, building, and district levels.

Joan began working with and learning from Bea Young in 2005 when her district implemented a Cultural Audit. Based on this study, the district learned of the need to deliver training in equity.  This professional development deepened Joan’s understanding of the importance of equity and multicultural education. It gave her the resources and competence to create equitable schools as a principal and district administrator.

Currently, she is honing her expertise at the college level teaching courses focusing on Educational Equity.  Joan teaches future principals to incorporate Equity into continuous school improvement by examining multiple pieces of data. This analysis leads to the creation of specific goals and action plans.
